Our Top 5 Favorite Black-Owned Fashion & Beauty Businesses

Over the past week- after the recent tragic murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor- the world has begun to wake up to the brutal realities that black people have been facing every day for years. Many are beginning to use their platforms to speak out against police brutality and systematic racism, others are protesting, educating themselves, donating, signing petitions, or talking with their loved ones about joining them in this fight for equality. Another important way to help is by supporting black owned businesses, big and small. There's a huge amount of talented black men and women in the fashion and beauty industry, and we've put together a list of a few of our current favorites that you guys can start supporting right now!

         1. NXC Vintage

You already know we love all things vintage! Owner Avry spent years sharing her vintage finds online and finally decided in February 2019, it was time to launch her own vintage shop, Nxcvintage, also known as NXCV. We love that her company makes vintage finds affordable, and easy to shop for from the comfort of your couch. If our words about this boss babe's company haven't inspired you yet, take a look for yourself!

 2. Humans Before Handles

This adorable and affordable jewelry brand stands for exactly what's written in their name. Founder Ash Sims loves putting a little extra effort into her style with statement jewelry pieces like a pair of chunky earrings, or a bold necklace- not so she can post an aesthetic instagram photo, but because she believes it "tells the world her mood and attention to detail." This brand cares about who you were before life revolved around social media, and advocates that we get back to a simpler time where we can focus more on what we stand for and what we're giving to the world instead of what our next IG caption is going to be. That's a mission we can get behind!

3. The Lip Bar

The Lip Bar has been making waves since hitting the mainstream beauty scene in 2012, and has since been picked up by target! We are in love with their wide range of funky colors, creamy matte finnish, and affordable price tag!

"I started The Lip Bar in my kitchen while working on Wall Street because I was tired of the beauty industry's lack of diversity, lack of inclusion and excessive amounts of unnecessary chemicals." says Melissa Butler, founder of The Lip Bar.

We love this brand because they strive to challenge beauty standards, and create products won't compromise our health! Plus they are vegan and cruelty free!

4. CASTAMIRA

This black owned small business has the most adorable array of 70's and 90's inspired swimwear. Similar to our own brand, these suits aim to inspire women to feel bold, confident and sexy in their skin. They are designed with our curves in mind, and we love that! As a former model. owner Chantel Davis knows what works and what doesn't when it comes to swimwear on a women's body. We love these elegent, timeless suits, and we think you will too!

These are just a few of our favorites, and there are so many more! Do you research and support black owned businesses! It's so sad and infuriating that black people continue to have to fight this hard for their human existence to be respected and seen as equal, but seeing so many people and businesses begin to stand up and speak out gives hope for a better future. You are not in this fight alone. We stand with you. We fight with you. Black lives matter!
